NEW DELHI : Indian badminton’s 2025 season unfolded as a year of recalibration rather than dominance, but amid the uncertainty, a few performances stood tall. As highlighted in a PTI year-ender report carried by Deccan Herald, Lakshya Sen and the men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty emerged as India’s most reliable performers in an otherwise uneven campaign.

Sen delivered the standout singles result of the year by winning the Australian Open Super 500, snapping a long title drought and underlining his return to form after a challenging post-Olympic phase. The victory stood out in a season where Indian men’s singles struggled for consistency across the BWF Tour, as reported by PTI/Deccan Herald.

The 23-year-old also made a strong run at the Hong Kong Open, finishing runner-up and showing renewed confidence against elite opposition, according to The Indian Express. “The results show that the hard work is paying off,” Sen was quoted as saying during the season, reflecting a cautious optimism around his resurgence.

In men’s doubles, Satwik and Chirag once again proved their pedigree. Despite dealing with injury and illness early in the year, the pair clinched a bronze medal at the BWF World Championships, one of India’s biggest achievements on the global stage in 2025, as reported by PTI and Times of India. Their ability to peak at major events reinforced their status as India’s most dependable doubles combination.

“The season wasn’t smooth, but we focused on staying competitive at the biggest tournaments,” a PTI report quoted the pair as saying, summing up a year that demanded patience and resilience.

Beyond the established stars, the season also offered glimpses of promise from younger players, a trend noted by Devdiscourse in its review of Indian badminton’s transitional phase. However, recurring injuries and lack of depth, particularly in women’s singles and mixed doubles, prevented India from maintaining momentum across the calendar.

As the curtain falls on 2025, Indian badminton finds itself at a crossroads. With Sen rediscovering form and Satwik-Chirag continuing to deliver on the biggest stages, the building blocks are in place. The challenge now, as underlined in the PTI year-ender via Deccan Herald, is turning these isolated highs into sustained success in the seasons ahead.
