Last-Minute Snub: Josh Inglis’ Late Call Sparks PBKS Owner’s Anger

Mohali : Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia has openly criticised Australia wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis for what he termed “unprofessional behaviour” after the player informed the franchise just 45 minutes before the IPL retention deadline that he would not be available for most of the IPL 2026 season.

Inglis, who had a productive IPL 2025 with PBKS — scoring 278 runs in 11 matches — was expected to be retained by the franchise. However, his late communication forced PBKS to rethink their plans at the final moment. Inglis cited his April wedding and the need for rest as reasons for his limited availability.

Speaking on the issue, Wadia expressed his disappointment, saying it was unfair to the team’s planning. According to NDTV, Wadia remarked:

> “I don’t think it was very professional of him… You can’t call someone 45 minutes before and say you’re not coming, especially when he knew that we were retaining him.”

Despite the frustration, Wadia maintained a balanced view and wished the player well. As quoted by NDTV, he added:

> “He is a good player and I wish him all the best for his future.”

Following his release from Punjab Kings, Inglis was picked up by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹8.6 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, even though he is unlikely to be available for the entire season.

The episode highlights the growing importance franchises place on clear communication and professional commitment, especially during crucial decision-making windows like player retentions.
