Mahit Sandhu claims gold in 50 m Rifle 3 Positions at Tokyo Deaflympics 2025

Mahit Sandhu claims gold in 50 m Rifle 3 Positions at Tokyo Deaflympics 2025

Record-Breaking Qualification

Sandhu began her campaign with a stunning show in the qualification round, scoring 585 (31x) — a new world record in the event. Her precision, balance and control across kneeling, prone and standing positions gave her a comfortable lead heading into the finals.

Dominant Finals Performance

Carrying her momentum forward, Sandhu registered 246 in the finals, setting a new Deaflympics record. She maintained her composure under pressure and finished 2.5 points ahead of South Korea’s Jeong Dain, who settled for silver.

This gold medal adds to Sandhu’s already impressive tally at Tokyo: two golds and two silvers, making her India’s most successful athlete at this edition of the Deaflympics.

India’s Best-Ever Shooting Campaign

Sandhu’s triumph highlights what has been a historic run for India in shooting at the Deaflympics. The contingent concluded the discipline with 15 medals — 6 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze — marking the country’s strongest shooting performance ever at the Games.

A New Benchmark for Indian Deaf Sports

Mahit Sandhu’s consistency, record-breaking scores and medal haul illustrate the rising standards of India’s deaf-sport ecosystem. Her success is expected to inspire greater participation and support for athletes with hearing impairments as India prepares for future international competitions.
