Stokes Poised for Ashes Redemption as He Returns to His Perth Roots

Bhubaneswar:From Breakout Star to England Captain
Ben Stokes is back in Australia for the 2025–26 Ashes, returning to Perth — the place where he first made his mark in Test cricket. Stokes’ journey has come full circle, raising the stakes as he leads England into what could be perhaps his final Ashes tour under his captaincy.

A Personal and Professional Milestone
Reflecting on his career, Stokes admitted that this tour is deeply personal: “I understand what this series means in my journey as England captain.” His arrival in Perth, where he first announced himself as a Test batsman with a whirlwind century at the WACA back in 2013–14, adds a poetic touch to his current challenge.

The Weight of History and Legacy
Stokes harbors ambition beyond just competing — he wants to win. A victory in Australia would make him one of the very few England captains to claim an Ashes series Down Under. He has spoken candidly about wanting to add his name to that “lucky few” list.

Driven by Determination
Despite his age and a history of injuries, Stokes has made no secret of his commitment. He said he is “desperate to get home … as one of the lucky few captains … being successful.” His recent return to training and renewed contract with England underline his intent and physical readiness.

A Final Bow on Australian Soil?
For many, this Ashes tour could be the capstone of Stokes’ Ashes career. It’s not just about reclaiming the urn — it’s about writing the final chapters of a legacy deeply tied to Australian soil, where his international journey leapt to life.
