Sydney Sixers etched their name in the unwanted records list of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The Sixers perished for just 42 runs against Melbourne Stars Women in Sydney to post the 2nd-lowest total in WBBL history.

Meg Lanning’s first innings masterclass of 135 from 74 balls saw the Stars post a total of 219/4 which is the 3rd-highest total in WBBL. However, what followed in the second innings was a big blow for the Sixers, after they were bowled out for a mere total of 42 runs, sustaining a 111 run defeat (DLS).

Meanwhile, as per ESPNcricinfo, the 111-run defeat is also the 2nd-highest loss in terms of runs in WBBL.

Here we present the list of the lowest WBBL scores in the competition’s history.

Melbourne Stars – 29 all out

The 2023 WBBL season saw Melbourne Strikers Women perish for just 29 runs against the Adelaide Strikers in Adelaide. Katie Mack was brilliant, scoring an 86-run knock from 50 balls to take her team to 177/3 in 20 overs. Laura Wolvaardt also shone as the opening duo added 135 runs for the opening wicket.

While chasing a target of 178, the Melbourne Stars Women batters were bowled out for a forgettable 29 runs in 9.3 overs. Megan Schutt claimed 3/3 and Amanda-Jade Wellington managed 3/4 to rattle the Stars.

Sydney Sixers – 42 all out

The Sydney Sixers were set a revised target of 154 from 10 overs via the DLS method after the Stars posted 219/4 in 20 overs. Kim Garth dismissed four of the top-5 batters in her spell of 4/3 from 2 overs, as the Sixers got all-out under 8 overs.

None of the Sydney Sixers batters managed to score in double-digits. Ellyse Perry’s 9 runs from six balls was their top score among batters.

Brisbane Heat – 66 all out

Brisbane Heat Women are third on this list of lowest scores in WBBL history. The 16th match of the 2017/18 season saw the Heats perish for a paltry score of 66 against Melbourne Renegades Women. Deandra Dottin and Beth Mooney scored 10-plus runs for their side. They were bowled out in 16.1 overs.

In a chase of 67, the Renegades scored 67/0 in 10.5 overs to win the contest by 10 wickets. Sophie Molineux scored an unbeaten 45 from 37 balls with 5 fours and a six.
