Bhubaneswar:;In a dramatic turn of events at the Mandalika International Street Circuit, Fermin Aldeguer claimed his first-ever MotoGP victory at the 2025 Indonesia Grand Prix. The race, however, was overshadowed by a high-speed collision on the opening lap that saw newly crowned world champion Marc Marquez crash out, suffering a collarbone injury.
Aldeguer’s Maiden Victory
The 20-year-old Gresini Racing rider showed exceptional skill and composure, overtaking KTM’s Pedro Acosta on the 10th lap to take the lead. He maintained his position to cross the finish line ahead of the competition. Aldeguer’s triumph made him the second youngest winner in MotoGP history and the first rookie to win a race since 2021. The victory was particularly sweet after he had finished second in the sprint race the previous day, having led most of the laps before being overtaken by Marco Bezzecchi.
Opening Lap Chaos
The race began with chaos as pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi had a poor start and dropped to sixth place. In his attempt to regain positions, Bezzecchi collided with Marquez’s Ducati, sending both riders off the track. Marquez appeared in significant pain and later assessments revealed a collarbone injury—the same shoulder he fractured in 2020. Ducati confirmed that Marquez would travel to Madrid for further medical evaluation and treatment.
Podium Finishers
Despite the early setbacks, the race continued with intensity. Pedro Acosta secured second place, while Aldeguer’s teammate Alex Marquez completed the podium in third. The race also saw Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia crash due to a bike malfunction, adding to the team’s challenging weekend.
A Historic Day
Aldeguer’s victory marks a major milestone in his career, highlighting his talent and determination. The Indonesian GP served as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of MotoGP, where rookies can rise and champions can falter in an instant. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Aldeguer to see if he can continue his breakthrough form and challenge the established stars of the sport.
