Satwik-Chirag Settle For Runner-Up Finish After Defeat To Kim-Seo In China Masters Final

Koreans Clinch Title With Straight-Game Victory

India’s star men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty fell just short of glory in the China Masters 2025 Super 750 final, going down to top-seeded Koreans Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae in straight games 21-19, 21-15. The defeat meant the Indian duo had to settle for a second successive runner-up finish on the BWF World Tour.

Indians’ Impressive Run To The Final

The Indian pair had carried strong momentum into the title clash, having beaten world No. 2 duo Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia in a commanding semi-final performance. They had not dropped a single game en route to the final, showcasing their attacking prowess and sharp coordination.

Second Straight Final Loss

The loss marked back-to-back final heartbreaks for Satwik-Chirag, who had also finished second best at the Hong Kong Super 500 the previous week after losing to China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang. Despite their excellent form, a major title has continued to elude them this season.

Where The Match Slipped Away

In the final, the Koreans held their composure in critical phases, particularly in the opening game where the Indians made a late surge but faltered on key points. Kim and Seo’s defensive solidity and sharp net play allowed them to dictate rallies, while unforced errors proved costly for the Indian pair.

Looking Ahead With Optimism

Despite the setback, Satwik-Chirag’s recent performances underline their growing consistency at the elite level. With improved fitness and rhythm, and under the guidance of their coach, the duo remain among the top contenders heading into upcoming tournaments, where they will aim to convert finals into championship wins.
