American Helen Maroulis Clinches Fourth World Title in Thrilling 2025 Wrestling Championship Finale

Zagreb, Croatia — In a masterclass of determination and skill, American wrestling star Helen Maroulis secured her historic fourth World Championship gold at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb. Competing in the fiercely contested 57 kg freestyle division, Maroulis edged out North Korea’s Il Sim Son with a nerve-wracking 3-2 victory that came down to a brilliant inside trip takedown in the last six seconds of the final bout.

Maroulis, who has been a dominant force on the global stage for over a decade, now joins an elite group of wrestlers with four world crowns—adding to her titles from 2015, 2017, and 2021. This victory places her second in the all-time American women’s freestyle wrestling world gold medal count, just behind Adeline Gray’s six. Her career haul now includes eight World Championship medals and three Olympic medals, highlighting her as one of the most decorated American wrestlers in history.

Throughout the tournament, Maroulis showed absolute dominance, not conceding a single match point until the finals and collecting three pins en route to the championship, asserting her technical and tactical superiority on the mat. Her final match exemplified her tenacity and strategic brilliance, as she waited for the perfect moment to seize victory in the closing seconds.

The 2025 World Wrestling Championships also saw a strong American showing beyond Maroulis. Kylie Welker captured a bronze medal in the 76 kg category, adding to the United States’ medal tally and underscoring the growing depth of the nation’s women’s wrestling program.

Helen Maroulis’ victory in Zagreb is not just a personal triumph but a shining moment for American wrestling, inspiring the next generation of athletes who will no doubt aspire to reach her level of global excellence.
