NEW YORK, USA — The women’s singles semifinals at the 2025 US Open are set to feature a compelling lineup of top players, each with a unique journey to the final four. The matches will see reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka face off against Jessica Pegula, while Amanda Anisimova will take on Naomi Osaka.

The Semifinalists and Their Journey

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Jessica Pegula

In a highly anticipated rematch of the 2024 US Open final, top seed and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will meet American fan favorite Jessica Pegula. Sabalenka’s path to the semifinals has been nothing short of dominant, as she has yet to drop a set in the tournament. She notably received a walkover in the quarterfinals after her opponent, Marketa Vondrousova, withdrew, giving her a significant rest advantage.

Pegula has been equally impressive, also not dropping a single set on her way to the semifinals. She has looked solid and confident, with a strong run that has included a straight-sets victory over Barbora Krejčíková in the quarterfinals. This marks a significant opportunity for the American to avenge her loss in last year’s final.

Head-to-Head: Sabalenka holds a dominant 7-2 lead over Pegula in their career head-to-head meetings. Sabalenka also won their last three encounters, including a straight-sets victory in the 2024 US Open final.

Amanda Anisimova vs. Naomi Osaka

In the other semifinal, Amanda Anisimova will face four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in a battle of former tennis prodigies. Anisimova’s run has been a story of sweet revenge. In her quarterfinal match, she defeated world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in straight sets, avenging a humbling 6-0, 6-0 loss in the 2025 Wimbledon final just 53 days prior. Anisimova has described her performance at this year’s US Open as “the run of my life.”

Naomi Osaka, returning to the US Open semifinals for the first time since becoming a mother, has shown her trademark power and poise throughout the tournament. She advanced to the final four after a clutch performance against Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals.

Head-to-Head: The two players have met twice before, both in 2022, with Anisimova winning both matches in straight sets at the Australian Open and Roland Garros. This semifinal will be their first meeting since then, and first ever at the US Open.
