India’s leading track and field athletes selected for the upcoming Asian Games will compete in a one-day athletics meet in New Delhi on September 10 as part of their final preparations for the continental showpiece.
The competition has been designed to provide athletes with a high-quality competitive environment before they depart for the Asian Games. It will also allow coaches and support staff to assess form, fitness and readiness across multiple disciplines.
Athletes representing sprint events, middle and long-distance races, jumps and throws are expected to participate in the meet, making it one of the most important domestic competitions of the season.
Officials believe the event will help competitors fine-tune their performances under race conditions while identifying any final areas requiring improvement. The meet is also expected to assist selectors and coaches in finalising competition strategies ahead of the Games.
India heads into the Asian Games with growing confidence following several strong international performances over the past few seasons. The country has steadily improved its standing in continental athletics, with medal expectations increasing across a number of events.
The Delhi meet will therefore be more than just another domestic competition. It represents the final opportunity for India’s elite athletes to test themselves before taking on Asia’s best, with every performance carrying significance ahead of one of the biggest events on the international athletics calendar.
