Haryana’s Olympian sprinter Kiran Pahal delivered another impressive performance, clinching the women’s 400m title at the 12th leg of the Indian Athletics Series in Surat, Gujarat.
The 25-year-old quarter-miler crossed the finish line in 53.49 seconds, comfortably finishing ahead of her rivals to claim the top spot on the podium. The timing was slightly slower than her season-best effort of 52.89 seconds, which she recorded earlier this season at the Ludhiana leg of the series. Pahal, who represented India at the 2024 Paris Olympics, owns a personal best of 50.92 seconds in the event.
In the women’s 400m final, Maharashtra’s Akanksha Gavade secured second place with a timing of 58.70 seconds, while Rajasthan’s Rama Tanwar finished third in 1:02.21.
The men’s 400m crown went to Tamil Nadu’s Pradeep S, who clocked 48.41 seconds to take gold. Meanwhile, Haryana athlete Naveen Kumar Dagar marked a successful return to competition by winning the men’s 3,000m steeplechase in 9:09.80.
Among other notable performances, Delhi sprinter Charu Shoukeen emerged as the fastest woman in the meet, winning the women’s 100m event in 12.29 seconds, ahead of Madhya Pradesh’s Heeral Johri and Uttar Pradesh’s Chaarvi Poojari.
Pahal’s victory further underlines her strong form as she continues her preparations for upcoming national and international competitions.
