New Delhi: India’s javelin ace Neeraj Chopra is all set to return to international competition at the Doha Diamond League on June 19, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty over his fitness and competition schedule. The two-time Olympic medallist has recovered from a back injury that kept him away from action since the start of the 2026 season and is now ready to launch his campaign on one of his favourite stages.

Chopra’s participation was confirmed by his management team through social media, while the 28-year-old also posted a brief message saying, “See you in Doha.” Interestingly, his name was missing from the original entry list released a few days earlier, but he has now been added to the star-studded field after making satisfactory progress in his rehabilitation and training camp in Switzerland.

The Doha meeting holds special significance for the Indian superstar. It was at the same venue in 2025 that Chopra finally breached the coveted 90-metre mark, registering a massive 90.23m throw—currently the Indian national record. Although Germany’s Julian Weber won the event with 91.06m, Chopra’s performance became one of the biggest milestones of his illustrious career.

This year’s competition promises another high-quality contest. Chopra is expected to face Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who leads the 2026 world list with 92.62m, reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott, two-time world champion Anderson Peters, former world champion Julius Yego, Jakub Vadlejch, Curtis Thompson, Artur Felfner, and Egypt’s Mohamed Huseein Ahmed Sameh.

The Doha Diamond League, originally scheduled for May, was postponed to June 19 because of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, allowing Chopra additional time to complete his recovery. His return comes at a crucial stage of the season as he builds towards the 2026 Commonwealth Games and other major international championships.
