The Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku delivered another memorable evening of elite athletics, with Olympic champion Camryn Rogers producing the standout moment by crossing the coveted 80-metre mark in the women’s hammer throw.

Rogers, one of the most consistent performers in the event over the past few seasons, saved her best effort for the final round. The Canadian unleashed a massive throw of 80.09m, setting a new meeting record and further underlining her status as the world’s leading hammer thrower. It was also the third time this season that she has surpassed the 80-metre barrier, a mark achieved by only a handful of athletes in the history of the event.

Home supporters had plenty to cheer as Finland’s Silja Kosonen finished second with 76.41m, while Krista Tervo secured third place with a throw of 75.55m. Despite the strong local challenge, Rogers remained in a class of her own on the night.

The men’s discus throw produced another high-quality contest, with world champion Kristjan Čeh continuing his impressive season. The Slovenian star claimed victory with a best throw of 69.13m, reinforcing his credentials as one of the favourites for upcoming major championships.

Sprint events also delivered excitement. Britain’s Romell Glave emerged victorious in the men’s 100m, clocking 10.16 seconds to take the title. In the women’s long jump, American Monae’ Nichols set a new meeting record with a leap of 6.88m, while Britain’s Jazmin Sawyers finished second after recording a season-best 6.62m.

Field events remained a highlight throughout the evening. American shot put specialist Chase Jackson launched the shot to 20.66m to establish a new meeting record, while Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis cleared the six-metre mark in the men’s pole vault. In the women’s competition, New Zealand’s Imogen Ayris also rewrote the meeting record books with a clearance of 4.81m.

One of the fastest races of the meeting came in the men’s 1500m, where Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui stormed to victory in 3:31.82. The race showcased exceptional depth, with numerous athletes finishing under the previous meeting record.
