Indian sprinting witnessed a historic and dramatic showdown at the Federation Cup 2026 as Animesh Kujur reclaimed the men’s 100m national record just minutes after Gurindervir Singh had broken it for the first time.
The electrifying sequence unfolded during the semifinals of the men’s 100m event at the National Senior Athletics Federation Competition in Ranchi. Gurindervir clocked 10.17 seconds in the opening semifinal heat, surpassing Animesh’s previous national mark of 10.18 seconds set last year.

In the very next semifinal heat, Animesh delivered a sensational response by sprinting to a blistering 10.15 seconds, reclaiming the national record and reaffirming his status as India’s fastest man.
The remarkable performance also helped the 22-year-old breach the Athletics Federation of India’s qualification standard of 10.16 seconds for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, further boosting India’s hopes in international sprinting.
