India U-18 Men Bounce Back in Style With Six-Goal Blitz Against Australia

India’s U-18 men’s hockey team delivered a statement performance in Bhopal on Monday, overpowering Australia 6-3 in a high-energy contest that showcased the growing confidence and attacking talent of the country’s next generation of hockey stars.

After suffering defeat in the previous match, the young Indian side entered the contest under pressure. But instead of playing cautiously, they responded with fearless, fast-paced hockey that left the Australian defence struggling to cope for long periods of the match.

From the opening whistle, India looked determined to seize control. Akash Deep opened the scoring in the first quarter before Shahrukh Ali quickly doubled the advantage, giving the hosts early momentum and energising the crowd at the Udhav Das Mehta Central SAI Centre in Bhopal.

The Indian attack continued to flow with remarkable intensity in the second quarter. Ketan Kushwaha and Romit Pal scored in quick succession as Australia found themselves overwhelmed by India’s relentless pressing and sharp movement inside the circle.

Australia attempted to fight their way back into the game after halftime, but India refused to lose control. Kushwaha added his second goal of the evening while Ansh Bahutra also found the net to complete an emphatic six-goal performance from the hosts.

Beyond the scoreline, what stood out most was the confidence with which the Indian youngsters played. Their passing remained crisp under pressure, the midfield controlled possession intelligently, and the forwards consistently attacked with purpose rather than hesitation.

The result levelled the four-match series at 1-1 and set up an exciting finale between the two sides. For the Indian camp, the victory carried extra significance because it demonstrated the team’s ability to recover quickly after setbacks — an important quality for players aiming to progress to the senior national setup.

The ongoing series against Australia is considered a major developmental opportunity for India’s junior players. Facing one of world hockey’s strongest systems at an early stage offers invaluable experience, especially in handling physical pressure and tactical discipline.

Coaches and selectors will also be encouraged by the attacking depth shown during the victory. India did not rely on a single player to carry the scoring burden, with multiple youngsters stepping up confidently across different phases of the game.

The crowd in Bhopal responded enthusiastically to the spirited performance, applauding the team’s aggression and energy throughout the contest. The atmosphere reflected growing excitement around India’s junior hockey structure, which continues to produce technically gifted and fearless young players.

With the series now perfectly balanced, attention shifts to the decisive upcoming encounter. India will enter that match carrying momentum, belief and the confidence that they can match Australia blow for blow.

For these young players, though, the journey is about more than one series victory. It is about proving they belong on bigger stages in the future — and performances like this suggest Indian hockey’s future remains in promising hands.
