The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has released the official selection framework for the Asian U23 Athletics Championships 2026, focusing on merit-based entry standards and performances recorded at designated national competitions.
As per the guidelines, athletes will be selected based on their performances in key domestic events, with priority given to results achieved at AFI-recognised national championships and trials. The federation has made it clear that only athletes meeting the prescribed qualification marks will be considered for selection.
The selection system is designed to ensure transparency and competitiveness, with AFI emphasising that consistent performance across the 2026 domestic season will be a crucial factor in final team selection.
The Asian U23 Championships form an important part of the continental athletics calendar, offering young Indian athletes a platform to compete at the international level and gain exposure ahead of senior-level events.
AFI’s structured selection approach is aimed at improving India’s overall performance in age-group competitions by ensuring only in-form athletes earn national selection.
