Rajasthan Royals fast bowling coach Shane Bond believes bowlers must continuously improve their skills to survive in modern-day T20 cricket after RR suffered another defeat against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026.
Following the loss, Bond admitted Rajasthan’s bowling attack struggled to contain Gujarat’s aggressive batting lineup and stressed the importance of adapting quickly in high-scoring conditions.
The former New Zealand pacer said batters around the world are becoming increasingly innovative, forcing bowlers to constantly add variations and improve execution. According to Bond, relying only on pace is no longer enough in franchise cricket.
He pointed out that successful bowlers now need a wide range of slower deliveries, yorkers, change-ups and tactical awareness to succeed consistently in pressure situations. Bond also stressed the importance of mental strength, especially after conceding boundaries in T20 matches.
Rajasthan Royals have struggled for consistency this season, particularly in the bowling department during the death overs. Injuries and lack of rhythm among senior bowlers have further affected the team’s performances.
Despite the setback, Bond expressed confidence in Rajasthan’s young bowling group and said the current season would provide valuable learning experiences for emerging players.
