Shanghai, China : Indian archer Simranjeet Kaur delivered a commanding performance to reach the semifinals of the women’s recurve individual event at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai. This marks a breakthrough moment for the 22-year-old, as it is her first appearance in the semifinal round at a World Cup final stage.

Facing off against Fong You Jhu of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinal, Simranjeet was unrelenting, producing an impressive three-end tally of 27, 28 and 29 to secure a 6-0 victory in straight sets. Her precision under pressure highlighted both consistency and mental resilience against a highly competitive field.

Speaking after her win, Simranjeet reflected on her performance, stating that “the key was to stay focused on each shot and not worry about the scoreboard.” Her coach echoed this sentiment, adding, “Today she embraced the challenge and executed her shots with clarity and confidence.”

Team India Shines in Recurve Events

Earlier in the tournament, the Indian women’s recurve team—including Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Kumkum Mohod—registered one of the event’s landmark results. The trio delivered a historic victory over ten-time Olympic champions South Korea, winning the semifinal match 5-1 to guarantee India a place in the team final. This stunning win not only showcased India’s depth in women’s archery but also set up a gold-medal clash against second-seeded China.

Deepika Kumari, a veteran of the sport, credited the team’s success to rigorous preparation and collective belief. “Beating Korea at a major World Cup stage gives us huge confidence going into the final,” she said.

Simranjeet Kaur will face her semifinal opponent later this weekend, aiming to reach her first World Cup final. Meanwhile, the Indian women’s recurve team will contest the gold medal match, promising one of the most compelling finals of the Shanghai World Cup.

With her powerful quarterfinal display and the team’s strong performance, Indian archery fans have much to look forward to as the competition enters its decisive stages.
