American gymnastics star Jade Carey is set to make her long-awaited return to elite competition at the upcoming American Classic, marking a major step in her comeback journey ahead of the 2026 season.
The two-time Olympic champion confirmed that she plans to compete at the American Classic from June 25 to 28, which will serve as her first elite gymnastics competition since the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Carey had earlier announced her comeback plans in April, saying she still had “more to give” to the sport and was “not done yet.”
The 25-year-old gymnast recently completed her NCAA gymnastics career with Oregon State University, where she enjoyed a highly successful collegiate run that included multiple perfect 10 scores and major individual honours.
According to reports, Carey intends to use the American Classic as a gradual re-entry into elite competition rather than immediately targeting full difficulty routines. The competition is expected to help her qualify for the 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships scheduled for August in Phoenix, Arizona — her hometown.
Carey remains one of the most accomplished gymnasts in the United States. She won floor exercise gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics and later helped Team USA secure team gold at the Paris Olympics while also earning bronze on vault.
Her comeback has generated excitement among gymnastics fans, especially with several veteran American stars continuing to extend their careers toward the 2028 Summer Olympics.
The American Classic is part of the domestic elite gymnastics calendar organised by USA Gymnastics and often serves as an important qualifying event for national championships and future international assignments.
Carey is expected to compete alongside several rising American gymnasts as the United States begins building toward the 2026 World Championships in Rotterdam later this year.
Her return adds another major storyline to women’s gymnastics in 2026, with fans eager to see whether the Olympic medallist can once again challenge for national and international honours.
