India’s men’s badminton team delivered a commanding performance to storm into the semi-finals of the 2026 Thomas Cup, registering a dominant 3-0 win over Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.
The tie began with Lakshya Sen setting the tone with a gritty comeback victory against Chou Tien Chen. After dropping the first game, Sen fought back brilliantly to win 18-21, 22-20, 21-17 and hand India an early lead.
India then tightened their grip through the formidable doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The pair battled past Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin in a three-game contest to extend the advantage to 2-0.
The decisive blow came from young shuttler Ayush Shetty, who sealed the tie in style. He defeated Lin Chun-Yi in straight games 21-16, 21-17, completing a clinical sweep and confirming India’s place in the last four.
With this emphatic victory, India not only advanced to the semi-finals but also assured themselves of at least a bronze medal in the prestigious team championship.
India will now face the winner of the France vs Japan clash in the semi-finals as they aim to continue their strong run and push for another Thomas Cup title.
