Tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka headlined the Laureus World Sports Awards 2026, winning the prestigious Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year titles respectively.
Held in Madrid, the star-studded ceremony celebrated the finest achievements in global sport over the past year. Alcaraz earned the top men’s honour after a dominant season that saw him finish as world No.1 and secure major titles, reinforcing his status as one of tennis’ brightest young icons. Sabalenka, meanwhile, was recognised for her consistency at the highest level, including a Grand Slam triumph and multiple deep runs across major tournaments.
The awards, often dubbed the “Oscars of sport,” are decided by the Laureus World Sports Academy and recognise excellence across disciplines.
In other major categories, Paris Saint-Germain was named Team of the Year following a historic season, while Formula One driver Lando Norris took home the Breakthrough of the Year award. Golf star Rory McIlroy was honoured with the Comeback of the Year accolade.
The ceremony also celebrated emerging and inspirational figures, with teenage football sensation Lamine Yamal winning the Young Sportsperson award, and legendary gymnast Nadia Comăneci receiving the Lifetime Achievement honour.
With tennis dominating the marquee categories, the 2026 edition once again highlighted the sport’s global influence, as Alcaraz and Sabalenka etched their names among the greats of international sport.
