Tribal Talent on the Rise: Football & Hockey Thrill on Day 8 of Khelo India Tribal Games

The Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 continued to deliver high-octane action on Day 8, with football and hockey contests intensifying alongside a fierce medal race in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Emerging tribal talent from across India showcased resilience, skill, and competitive spirit as the tournament edged closer to its grand finale.

In football, the semi-final stage produced gripping encounters. Hosts Chhattisgarh secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Arunachal Pradesh, while West Bengal outclassed Goa 5-2 to book their place in the final. The results ensured a medal for the hosts and set up an exciting title clash.

Hockey competitions also drew attention, with dominant performances shaping the podium battles. Odisha emerged as a powerhouse, delivering commanding displays, including a crushing 8-0 semi-final win in women’s hockey, highlighting their depth and tactical superiority.

In athletics, Karnataka continued to dominate the medal tally, extending their lead with standout performances in track events. Their athletes delivered gold-winning runs, keeping them firmly atop the standings. Meanwhile, Odisha remained strong contenders, clinching multiple gold medals to maintain pressure in second place.

The Tribal Games, a key initiative under India’s sports development programme, aim to identify and nurture talent from remote and indigenous communities. As Day 8 concluded, the competition reflected not just sporting excellence but also the transformative power of grassroots sports in shaping India’s future champions.
