India’s pole vault prospect Baranica Elangovan is redefining her game with a clear shift in mindset—prioritising technique over mere performance—and the results are beginning to show.
Speaking after her recent outing, Baranica highlighted how technical consistency has become her primary focus. “I’ve been concentrating more on my technique rather than just the end performance,” she said, pointing to improvements in her approach run, take-off, and bar clearance.
The Tamil Nadu athlete, who has consistently been among the country’s top vaulters, believes that this refined approach will help her achieve bigger marks going forward. Instead of chasing numbers, she is now working on executing each phase of the jump with precision—something that often separates good athletes from great ones.
Her recent performances reflect this transition. While the heights may not always tell the full story, her cleaner attempts and improved rhythm indicate steady progress. “When the technique is right, the height will follow,” she added, emphasizing patience in her journey.
Baranica’s evolution comes at a crucial time for Indian athletics, with major international competitions on the horizon. With stronger technical foundations and growing confidence, she is positioning herself as a serious contender in women’s pole vault.
If her current trajectory continues, it may not be long before Baranica translates this technical mastery into record-breaking performances on the big stage.
