The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Final between India national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team turned into a run-fest as India piled up a massive 255/5 in 20 overs, setting the Kiwis a daunting target of 256 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

India’s batting unit delivered a fearless display in the high-stakes final, with several batters producing explosive knocks to register the highest total ever in a T20 World Cup final.

The charge was led by Sanju Samson, who played a sensational innings of 89 off 46 balls, anchoring the Indian innings with a mix of power and timing. He received early support from Abhishek Sharma, who smashed a blistering 52 off just 21 deliveries, including a rapid 18-ball half-century, one of the fastest of the tournament.

The aggressive start helped India race to 100 runs inside eight overs, with Abhishek and Samson putting together a quick partnership that put the New Zealand bowlers under immense pressure.

Later, Ishan Kishan continued the onslaught with a blazing 23-ball fifty, sharing a century stand with Samson as India surged past 200 with five overs still remaining.

New Zealand briefly clawed back into the contest when James Neesham produced a dramatic over, removing Kishan, Samson and Suryakumar Yadav to halt India’s momentum. However, the late fireworks from Shivam Dube, who blasted 26 not out from just eight balls, ensured India crossed the 250-run mark.

Earlier, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner had won the toss and opted to bowl first, hoping to restrict India on a batting-friendly surface. But the Indian batters dominated the innings and set up a formidable total.

Now the spotlight shifts to New Zealand’s batting lineup, featuring Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, and Rachin Ravindra, who must attempt a record chase of 256 if they are to lift the world title.

With India’s bowlers led by Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh preparing to defend the total, the final promises a thrilling second innings. If New Zealand manages to chase down the target, it would be one of the greatest run chases in T20 World Cup history; otherwise, India could be on the brink of another global triumph.
