Indian wrestlers Meenakshi and Neha Sangwan delivered impressive performances to win silver medals at the Muhamet Malo Tournament 2026 in Tirana, continuing India’s strong showing on the international wrestling circuit.
Competing in the women’s freestyle 53kg category, Meenakshi displayed excellent form throughout the tournament, defeating several opponents on her way to the final. Her aggressive attacking style and tactical control helped her secure convincing victories in the earlier rounds, but she eventually fell short in the gold-medal bout against Russia’s Natalia Malysheva, settling for a well-earned silver medal.
In the 57kg category, Neha Sangwan also enjoyed a strong run to the final. The young Indian grappler showed resilience and skill during the qualification rounds, overcoming tough opposition to reach the title clash. Despite a spirited effort in the final, Neha finished second and added another silver medal to India’s tally at the tournament.
The Muhamet Malo Tournament, held from 25 February to 1 March 2026, is the second event of the United World Wrestling Ranking Series, featuring hundreds of top wrestlers from around the world and offering crucial ranking points as well as prize money to medal winners.
With the twin silver medals from Meenakshi and Neha Sangwan, India’s women wrestlers once again underlined their growing presence on the global stage, continuing the country’s steady rise in international freestyle wrestling competitions.
