NAVI MUMBAI : Tilak Varma has been named in the India A squad for T20 World Cup warm-up matches, marking his return to competitive cricket after recovering from a groin injury. The promising left-hander is set to play against the USA on Monday, a key fixture ahead of India’s World Cup opener against the same side on February 7, according to a report by Rediff.com.
Ayush Badoni will lead the India A team, which will also face Namibia on February 6 in another warm-up game. Tilak’s comeback is seen as a major boost for India’s middle order, where he is viewed as a potential No. 3 mainstay.
The 21-year-old has already built an impressive T20I profile, scoring 1,183 runs in 40 matches at an average of 49.29 and a strike rate of 144.09, including two hundreds and six fifties. He was also India’s top scorer in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan, registering a crucial 69 off 53 balls.
“These games will be vital to assess Tilak’s match fitness and form ahead of the World Cup,” a team source indicated.
The India A squad also includes exciting names such as Riyan Parag, Ravi Bishnoi, Khaleel Ahmed, Priyansh Arya, and pace sensation Mayank Yadav, who is also making a return from injury.
