MELBOURNE : Novak Djokovic marked yet another monumental milestone at the 2026 Australian Open, cruising past Spain’s Pedro Martinez in straight sets — 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 — to record his 100th career match victory at Melbourne Park, a feat that has only added to his incredible legacy in men’s tennis.

At 38 years old and playing his 21st Australian Open, Djokovic’s dominant display wasn’t just another win — it was historic. His century mark at the season’s first Grand Slam makes him the first man in history to register 100 or more match victories at three different majors (100 at Australian Open, 101 at Roland Garros and 102 at Wimbledon).

“What can I say? I like the sound of it… Centurion is pretty nice,” Djokovic said with a grin after the match, embracing the milestone with characteristic humility and humour.

Djokovic’s near-flawless performance saw him take control early, firing sharp groundstrokes and serving aggressively to keep Martinez on the back foot throughout. The Serb faced zero break points, unleashed double-figure aces, and moved with purpose — dispelling any doubts about his fitness and readiness after a brief break from competitive action.

What It Means for Djokovic’s Grand Slam Quest

This landmark win moves Djokovic a step closer to his record-extending 25th Grand Slam title and an unprecedented 11th Australian Open crown — achievements that could further cement his status among the sport’s all-time greats.

Next up, he’s set to face Italian qualifier Francesco Maestrelli in the second round, where fans and pundits alike will be watching to see if the centurion can continue his bid for glory.
