Kolkata : World-class distance runners Alphonce Felix Simbu, Joshua Cheptegei, and Sutume Asefa Kedebe will headline the elite field at the upcoming Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata, promising a fiercely competitive contest on the demanding city course.
According to Sportstar, Tanzanian runner Simbu, the reigning world marathon champion, will make his debut in the 25km format and is looking forward to testing himself on the Kolkata route.
“This will be a new experience for me, but I am excited to challenge myself,” Simbu was quoted as saying.
Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei, a double Olympic champion and one of the most decorated long-distance runners of his generation, will also compete, adding star value to the event. Cheptegei highlighted the significance of racing in India and the growing popularity of road running in the country.
In the women’s elite race, Ethiopian runner Sutume Asefa Kedebe returns as a strong favourite, aiming to defend her title and continue her dominance in Kolkata.
“I like the course here and the support from the crowd motivates me,” Kedebe said, as per Sportstar.
The Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata, one of India’s most prestigious road races, is known for attracting top international athletes while offering a challenging course that tests endurance and tactical strength.
