India’s Under-19 team delivered a performance for the record books on Tuesday, crushing Malaysia by a staggering 315 runs in the U-19 Asia Cup. A breathtaking unbeaten double century from Abhigyan Kundu, followed by a ruthless bowling display led by Deepesh Devendran, ensured a one-sided contest that underlined India’s dominance at youth level.
Batting first, India piled on a colossal 408 for 7, with Kundu scripting history by becoming the first Indian to score a double hundred in Youth ODIs. The right-hander was in sublime touch from the outset, racing through the gears to finish on 209 not out off just 125 balls, an innings laced with 17 fours and nine sixes. His knock was a masterclass in controlled aggression, blending clean striking with sharp strike rotation.
The foundation for the big total was laid early by Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who set the tempo with a blistering 50 off 26 deliveries. Although early wickets briefly halted India’s momentum, Kundu found a perfect partner in Vedant Trivedi. The duo stitched together a commanding 209-run stand for the fourth wicket, effectively batting Malaysia out of the contest. Trivedi fell just short of a century, departing for a well-made 90, but by then the damage was irreparable.
India continued to press the accelerator in the latter stages, with Kundu bringing up his landmark double hundred during a brisk partnership with Kanishk Chouhan. The final total of 408 reflected not just power but depth and composure across the batting unit.
Malaysia’s reply never truly took off. Early strikes from Kishan Singh and Udhav Mohan exposed the visitors’ fragile batting, before Deepesh Devendran tore through the middle order with a sensational spell. The right-arm seamer finished with figures of 5 for 22, dismantling Malaysia’s resistance and ensuring there was no late twist in the tale. Hamzah Panggi’s 35 offered brief defiance, but Malaysia were eventually bowled out for 93 in 32.1 overs.
The 315-run margin stands as India’s second-biggest victory in Youth ODIs, reinforcing their status as one of the tournament favourites. More importantly, it marked a landmark day for Abhigyan Kundu, whose historic double century will be remembered as one of the finest individual performances in U-19 cricket.
