Ben Simmons’ NBA future has been one of the league’s biggest mysteries this season — but a single Instagram comment has suddenly reignited talk of a dramatic Philadelphia 76ers reunion.
The Australian star, still a free agent after going unsigned through the off-season, broke his silence when a fan asked whether he’d return to the Sixers on a minimum deal to play centre or power forward. Simmons’ reply was blunt, emotional, and eye-opening:
“It ain’t about the money. I’d hoop there for free… The focus is getting the body to 100 per cent before putting my health on the line again like I have been the last few years.”
Those words — equal parts vulnerable and defiant — have reopened the door to a possible comeback with the franchise where he became an NBA superstar and one of the league’s elite two-way players.
Simmons’ relationship with Philadelphia has long been complicated. From his early rise alongside Joel Embiid to the intense backlash after his departure, his every return to the arena has been met with hostility. Yet his latest comment suggests something deeper: a lingering loyalty and unfinished business in the city where it all began.
For now, Simmons remains in limbo, focused on rebuilding his body after years of injuries and uncertainty. But his message signals one thing clearly — if the Sixers call, Ben Simmons is willing to listen. And perhaps, for the first time in years, a reunion doesn’t seem impossible.
