Liverpool manager Arne Slot has hailed Mohamed Salah as a “top professional” after the forward reacted calmly to being dropped for the 2-0 win at West Ham. It was the first time Salah had been left out of a Premier League starting XI since April 2024.
Star Forward Struggling for Goals
Salah won last season’s Golden Boot with 29 goals but has scored only four this campaign. Slot admitted it was “fair to assume” the Egyptian was unhappy about being an unused substitute, but stressed that such frustration is normal for top players.
Slot Impressed With His Attitude
The manager said Salah “handled himself really well” over the past two days. He praised the 32-year-old’s discipline and fitness habits, calling him a player who remains professional regardless of form or selection.
AFCON Absence Looms for Liverpool
Slot confirmed that Salah will leave on 15 December to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations, with the final scheduled for 18 January. Liverpool, currently eighth in the table, will need to adjust without their leading forward.
Big Fixtures Ahead
Liverpool face Sunderland at Anfield on Wednesday, followed by a trip to struggling Leeds on Saturday as they try to close a nine-point gap to leaders Arsenal.
