Why Are Frank’s Spurs Struggling at Home?

Why Are Frank’s Spurs Struggling at Home?

Tottenham’s bright start under Thomas Frank has quickly faded, especially at home. A heavy 4-1 loss to Arsenal has intensified pressure, leaving Spurs with just one win in five Premier League games. Even an improved attacking display in the 5-3 defeat at PSG offered little comfort.

Home Form a Major Concern
Spurs have the joint-best away record this season, but only one league win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — against Burnley on opening weekend. Goals and creativity have dried up. Spurs have managed seven goals in six home games, and only Burnley have had fewer shots on target. Their struggles go back months: just three home league wins in a year, the worst 20-game run in 31 years.

Creativity Gap in Midfield
Critics say Frank’s midfield looks too safe. Spurs have produced only four throughballs all season, compared with Arsenal’s 43. Danny Murphy feels the attack lacks confidence and cohesion. Away from home, Spurs can sit deeper, counter, and slow the tempo. At home, fans expect front-foot football, and the squad hasn’t delivered. Frank’s rotations — sometimes a No.10, sometimes three central midfielders — have added inconsistency.

Missing Key Attackers
Michael Carrick points to the absences of Kulusevski, Maddison, and Solanke. Without that trio, Spurs lose creativity, goals, and a focal point. Lucas Bergvall, Joao Palhinha, and Rodrigo Bentancur form a strong group, but they cannot fully replace Spurs’ main attacking outlet.

Crowd Pressure Playing a Part
Home supporters have grown restless, with boos becoming common. Murphy says the tension feeds onto the pitch. Players start taking safer options because they fear the groans. Spurs play with more freedom away because there is less expectation and less noise.

Problems Fixable in the Long Run
Despite having the second-worst home record in the league, both Murphy and Carrick believe Frank will stabilise things. Frank has focused first on structure and defensive organisation. As injured players return and the front line settles, improvement is expected. Two or three wins could completely shift the atmosphere.
