Odisha is all set to welcome the world’s badminton stars as it hosts the Odisha Masters 2025 – BWF Tour Super 100 Tournament from 9th to 14th December at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Cuttack. The international event will be organized jointly by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Badminton Association of India (BAI), Odisha State Badminton Association, and the Sports & Youth Services Department.
This year marks the fourth edition of the prestigious tournament in Odisha.
At a press conference held Thursday at Kalinga Stadium, Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj shared details about the championship. Players from 22 countries, including India, Finland, Hong Kong China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Israel, Japan, Spain, Egypt, Indonesia, USA, Australia, England, Thailand, Bulgaria, Chinese Taipei, UAE, Uganda, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Russia, and Bangladesh, are expected to participate.
More than 400 athletes will compete across five categories: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Top-ranked international shuttlers are also expected to feature.
The Minister also announced that the 37th Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship will be held at Kalinga Stadium from 1st to 6th December for the Under-15 and Under-17 categories. About 750 players from across India will participate, including 25 athletes from Odisha.
Highlighting Odisha’s growing stature in global sports, the Minister said the state has successfully hosted major events like the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze and the Asian Table Tennis Championship. Hosting the Odisha Masters, he noted, will further strengthen Odisha’s commitment to sports development and enhance its international reputation.
Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, President of the Odisha State Badminton Association, expressed pride in hosting the international tournament, emphasizing that it will inspire budding badminton talents across the state.
Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Sports & Youth Services, added that Odisha has carved a distinct identity in global sports through its consistent hosting of international competitions.
The official logo of the tournament was unveiled during the event, and the tournament mascot “Olly” made a lively appearance, energizing sports enthusiasts present on the occasion
