Earthquake Causes Momentary Halt on Day 3 of BAN–IRE Test

Play was briefly halted on the third day of the second Test between Bangladesh and Ireland at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, after tremors from an earthquake were felt at the venue.

Ireland was 165 for five shortly after the 55th over of its second innings when players and officials noticed the ground shaking, prompting an immediate but short interruption.

“Goodness. Play has stopped here due to a minor tremor/earthquake,” Cricket Ireland posted on X.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Dhaka and several other parts of the country at 10:38 am, with tremors lasting nearly 30 seconds before normalcy returned and play resumed.

At lunch, Ireland had progressed to 211 for seven, with Lorcan Tucker unbeaten on 56, trying to guide his side to a competitive total.

Earlier in the day, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das powered Bangladesh to a strong first-innings score of 476. Rahim marked a historic milestone by becoming the first Bangladeshi and only the 11th cricketer in Test history to score a century in his 100th Test match.
