In an exciting celebration of India’s growing hockey legacy, the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup trophy arrived in Odisha on Thursday, sparking enthusiasm among fans and officials alike. The unveiling took place at the iconic Kalinga Stadium, led by Minister of Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water, Rabi Narayan Naik, alongside Hockey India President and hockey legend, Dilip Tirkey, and senior state officials. The event marks the start of the nationwide trophy tour ahead of the tournament, which will be held in Tamil Nadu from November 28 to December 10, 2025.

While Odisha is not the official host for the tournament, its passion for the sport and the significance of hockey in the state’s culture were evident as local officials and sports enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the trophy’s arrival. Odisha’s embrace of the event further underscores the state’s role in strengthening India’s sporting reputation globally.
The Junior World Cup, which will feature 24 teams for the first time in history, is expected to be a thrilling showcase of talent, with 2025 marking the tournament’s largest-ever field of competitors. In the lead-up to the event, Hockey India recently announced its 18-member squad, led by Captain Rohit, with PR Sreejesh, the former Indian goalkeeper, as the coach. The team will begin their campaign in Pool B, facing Chile, Oman, and Switzerland.
India, which won the prestigious title twice, has high hopes of clinching their third Junior World Cup on home soil.
The team’s preparations have been robust, with exposure to top-tier international competition, including a tour across Europe and practice sessions against India’s senior national squad.
Unfortunately, one of the standout players, Araijeet Singh Hundal, has been ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury. However, the team remains upbeat, with their confidence bolstered by their recent form and the support of home fans.
As the countdown begins to the tournament in Chennai and Madurai, all eyes will be on India’s young stars, hoping for a spectacular performance that could lead them to Junior World Cup glory once again.
