Dubai Unveils a New Era for Sport
His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, has launched the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033—an ambitious blueprint that redefines the future of sport in the emirate. The plan positions Dubai to become the world’s leading sporting city by 2033, combining community engagement, athlete development, innovation and economic growth.
At a special gathering at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex, global sporting icons, club officials, academy representatives and international partners witnessed the reveal of the plan’s core pillars and Dubai’s new sports identity. Chosen from thousands of public submissions, the new emblem marks the start of a fresh chapter, symbolising Dubai’s aspiration to stand among the world’s premier destinations for athletes and major sporting events.
A Vision Rooted in Competitiveness and Community
Sheikh Mansoor emphasised that the plan reflects Dubai’s long-term commitment to nurturing talent, fostering community participation and building a world-class sports ecosystem. He highlighted that the next phase will focus on empowering public and private clubs to meet global standards, strengthening infrastructure and expanding opportunities for youth—ensuring sport remains a central pillar of Dubai’s lifestyle.
“We are building a dynamic, innovative and globally competitive sports ecosystem,” he noted, reaffirming Dubai’s goal of becoming the top international destination for athletes and sporting excellence.
Key Pillars Shaping Dubai’s Sporting Future
The Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033 revolves around four pillars: Community, Events, Clubs and Talent. A total of 19 programmes and 75 initiatives create a system that elevates sports infrastructure, boosts community involvement, encourages healthier lifestyles and builds elite pathways for rising talent.
The plan identifies 17 priority sports across three categories.
Emerging sports like padel, esports and combat disciplines are gaining rapid momentum.
Community sports such as running and swimming aim to strengthen public health and social cohesion.
Global reach sports including cricket, basketball and golf combine mass appeal with high economic value.
An Economic Engine with Sporting Spirit
Sport is poised to become a more powerful economic contributor. By 2033, Dubai aims to nearly double the sector’s GDP contribution—from AED 10.17 billion to AED 18.3 billion annually. Participation is expected to climb from 1.6 million to 2.6 million residents, while attendance at major events may rise from 1.67 million to 4.1 million annually.
These figures signal not only a growing sporting culture but a thriving industry that fuels tourism, investment and global engagement.
Empowering Clubs, Athletes and Communities
Sheikh Mansoor underscored the importance of collaboration, calling on institutions and individuals to play a collective role in achieving the plan’s goals. He highlighted sport’s role in shaping a vibrant, healthy and united society—one that inspires progress and elevates overall wellbeing.
Dubai’s new sports identity and the objectives of the strategic plan will be showcased at the World Sports Summit in December, bringing together international stars, key decision-makers and federations from around the globe.
Aligned with Dubai’s Broader Progress
The plan complements the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. It reflects global trends in sport while integrating governance, community development and competitive growth. This unified approach aims to give Dubai an unmatched edge in the global sporting landscape.
Stronger Governance for Sustainable Impact
The Dubai Sports Council will implement robust governance and performance frameworks to ensure progress across all initiatives. Enhanced collaboration with government entities and the private sector will maximise infrastructure investment and create a sustainable ecosystem.
Ultimately, the Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033 cements the emirate’s position as a regional sports capital—while propelling it toward becoming a global sporting powerhouse. It envisions a healthier, happier and more active society, where sport becomes both a lifestyle and an economic driver, reflecting Dubai’s spirit of ambition, innovation and excellence.
