Great Britain’s women slipped to a narrow 85-81 defeat against Austria in a fiercely contested EuroBasket 2027 qualifying clash in Vienna.
Temi Fagbenle led GB with 22 points — just one short of Austria’s top scorer Sina Elke Hollerl — while Holly Warburton added an impressive 18. The game was a tense back-and-forth battle featuring 16 lead changes.
GB trailed 16-14 after the opening quarter but rallied to take a one-point lead into half-time. The momentum swung repeatedly after the break, with neither side able to pull away. In the final minutes, however, Austria held firm to secure the win and move to the top of Group D.
Britain now turn their attention to Norway, who they face in Bergen on Tuesday in their final qualifier of the year. Return legs will resume in March.
Once all home-and-away fixtures are completed, the top two teams from each group — plus the three best third-placed sides across all seven groups — will advance to the second qualifying round.
EuroBasket 2027 will be hosted jointly by Belgium, Sweden, Finland and Lithuania in June 2027.
