Amateur golfer Mahreen Bhatia lit up the leaderboard at the 15th leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour, charging to the top with a standout performance at the Jaypee Wishtown Golf Course in Noida. Her second-round 66 (5-under) featured a sizzling back nine: three consecutive birdies from holes 10 to 12, a brilliant eagle on the par-4 14th, and a closing birdie to finish the day. Combined with her opening round of 68, she now sits at 8-under 134 for 36 holes, two strokes clear of seasoned pro Vani Kapoor.
Vani, the five-time winner this season, ending the day on 6-under 136 after a solid 67, remains in contention but facing the surge of the younger talent. Two-time winner Sneha Singh is third at 4-under 138, while Jahanvi Bakshi sits fourth at 2-under 140.
Conditions did not favour scoring today, with the course proving tougher than in round one — only four rounds were under par, compared with ten on day one. Despite the challenge, Mahreen capitalised on her momentum and posted a brilliant back nine of 6-under 29 to leap into the lead.
With the final round ahead, observers are keen to see if the teenage amateur can hold off the experienced pros and claim a breakthrough win on the stop.
