The inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind was inaugurated at Modern School Ground in New Delhi on Monday. Six teams — India, Sri Lanka, the USA, Nepal, Australia, and Pakistan — are taking part in the tournament. The opening match will be played between India and Sri Lanka.
Jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the competition will run from November 11 to 23, with the final scheduled to be played in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The opening ceremony was attended by Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur and Meenakshi Lekhi, former Minister of External Affairs and chairperson of the organising committee.
Anurag Thakur said he was eagerly looking forward to the tournament, adding that it would help promote women’s sports and inclusivity. He also recalled India’s recent Women’s World Cup triumph, saying it has inspired a new generation of athletes across the country.
