Former NFL star Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to the United States to face a second-degree attempted murder charge linked to a shooting incident in May.
Arrest and Extradition
According to Miami Police, Brown was tracked down and detained in Dubai before being handed over to US Marshals. He was later flown to New Jersey’s Essex County, where he is currently being held. Authorities said he will soon be transferred to Miami-Dade County Jail for further proceedings.
The arrest follows a police investigation into an altercation that took place earlier this year. Officials allege Brown grabbed a gun from a security guard and fired two shots at a man he had fought with earlier that day. Though no one was injured, an arrest warrant was issued in June.
Brown’s Response
Brown, however, has denied the allegations. In a social media post, he claimed he was the victim of an attempted robbery, saying several men attacked him and tried to steal his jewelry.
“I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal from me and cause harm,” he wrote. “Police detained me temporarily, heard my side of the story, and released me that night. I was never arrested.”
Police sources confirmed that Brown had been briefly held at the scene but was let go pending investigation.
From the NFL to Legal Trouble
Brown’s NFL career was as eventful as it was controversial. A standout wide receiver, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He caught 928 passes for 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns over his career. His crowning moment came in 2021, when he helped Tampa Bay defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, even scoring a touchdown in the final.
Since leaving the league, Brown’s life has often made headlines for off-field issues. His brief stint in music and business ventures was overshadowed by multiple legal disputes and public controversies.
Now, with the extradition completed, the 36-year-old faces one of the most serious challenges of his life — a criminal case that could determine his future far beyond football.
