Countdown Begins for World-Class Hockey Action in Chennai and Madurai

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially unveiled the prestigious trophy for the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 at a glittering ceremony held at the State Secretariat in Chennai, marking the formal countdown to one of the biggest global hockey events.

The FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup 2025 will be hosted in Chennai and Madurai from November 28 to December 10, 2025, marking the first time the tournament will feature 24 teams from across the world. India, the host nation, has previously lifted the trophy twice — in 2001 and 2016 — and will be aiming for a historic third title on home soil.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Stalin expressed pride in Tamil Nadu’s role as the host:

“Hosting the Junior World Cup is an honour for Tamil Nadu and a reflection of our growing global stature as a sports destination. We are committed to providing the best facilities for players and fans alike.”

The unveiling event was attended by  Udhayanidhi Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu; SN. Muruganandam,Chief Secretary; Atulya Misra, Additional Chief Secretary; and J. Meghanatha Reddy, Member Secretary and CEO of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT).

Top officials from Hockey India, including  Dilip Kumar Tirkey (President), Bhola Nath Singh (Secretary General), and Sekar J. Manoharan (Treasurer), were also present on the occasion.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey lauded Tamil Nadu’s efforts, saying, “It is a moment of great pride to see the Chief Minister unveil the Junior World Cup trophy. Tamil Nadu’s world-class infrastructure and passion for the game will ensure a truly memorable tournament.”

Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh added, “The Junior World Cup represents the future of world hockey. With unwavering support from the Tamil Nadu Government and SDAT, we are confident this edition will set new benchmarks of excellence.”

With cutting-edge facilities and enthusiastic local support, Tamil Nadu is gearing up to welcome young hockey stars from around the world. The event promises an electrifying mix of skill, speed, and spirit — a celebration of sport that will put India’s hockey heritage in the global spotlight.

The countdown begins — Tamil Nadu 2025 is ready for the world!
