Day Three , Junior Athletics: Basant, Narpat Win Gold But Miss World U20 Marks

Day Three , Junior Athletics: Basant, Narpat Win Gold But Miss World U20 Marks

Bhubaneswar: On the third day of the 40th National Junior Athletics Championships at Kalinga Stadium, Rajasthan’s Basant and Narpat Singh won gold in their events but narrowly missed the World U20 qualification marks. Basant cleared 2.11m in the men’s U20 high jump, just short of the 2.12m mark needed for the World U20 Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA, in 2026. Narpat Singh won the men’s U20 hammer throw with a distance of 67.45m, falling slightly short of the 68m qualification mark. Meanwhile, in the U14 kids javelin, Aaradhya Singh clinched gold while  Odisha ‘s Kuni Rajgond Hari R took silver, rounding off an exciting day.

Day 3 Results – Men:

U20 High Jump: Basant (Rajasthan) 2.11m, Sagar Roy (West Bengal) 2.09m, Afroz Ahmad (Jharkhand) 2.03m

U20 Hammer Throw: Narpat Singh (Rajasthan) 67.45m, Kartik (Uttar Pradesh) 66.40m, Aakash (Rajasthan) 65.60m

U20 5,000m Race Walk: Amit Kumar (Chhattisgarh) 19:47.76 seconds, Ashish Yadav (Madhya Pradesh) 19:49.99 seconds, Sachin (Haryana) 19:59.48 seconds

U18 Boys Shot Put: Nishchay (Haryana) 19.48m, Harpartap Singh (Punjab) 18.03m, Parth Solanki (Delhi) 17.58m

U18 Boys Long Jump: Shivam Yadav (Uttar Pradesh) 7.34m, Deepak Munda (Jharkhand) 7.23m, Manvith N (Karnataka) 7.18m

U16 Boys High Jump: Sakthivel VN (Tamil Nadu) 1.81m, Kingshuk Paul (West Bengal) 1.78m, Muhammed Rabeeh (Kerala) 1.78m

Day 3 Results – Women:

U20 3000m: Sonam Parmar (Madhya Pradesh) 10:01.46 seconds, Tanisha (Haryana) 10:06.85 seconds, Soniya Upadhyay (Uttar Pradesh) 10:12.21 seconds

U20 Triple Jump: Paveena Rajesh (Tamil Nadu) 12.42m, Tamanna (Haryana) 12.34m, Janice Tressa R (Kerala) 12.29m

U20 Hammer Throw (4kg): Gunjan Singh (Uttar Pradesh) 47.78m, Ramisha Makvana (Gujarat) 46.98m, Ridhima (Rajasthan) 45.86m

U20 5,000m Race Walk: Manisha (Rajasthan) 23:43.58 seconds, Tanya (Delhi) 23:43.91 seconds, Savitaben Chauhan (Gujarat) 23:57.90 seconds

U16 High Jump: Abiya Ann Gigi (Kerala) 1.56m (meet record; previous record 1.52m by Y Potanapalli in 2024), Dhanya S (Tamil Nadu) 1.53m, Nivetha S (Tamil Nadu) 1.50m

U14 Kids Javelin: Aaradhya Singh (Haryana) 38.64m, Kuni Rajgond Hari R (Odisha) 37.55m, Anushri Biswas (West Bengal) 36.56m

Despite missing the World U20 qualification, Basant and Narpat Singh delivered strong performances, giving Rajasthan a proud showing on day 3 of the championships.
