Fast bowler Mitchell Starc has returned to Australia’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match home series against India, starting on October 19, while Mitchell Marsh will continue as captain in the absence of Pat Cummins, who is recovering from a back injury.
Starc among four new inclusions
Starc, who retired from T20Is last month, missed the home ODI series against South Africa in August following his return from the West Indies Test tour. With his workload being carefully managed ahead of the Ashes, the left-arm quick last played an ODI in November 2024 against Pakistan in Adelaide.
He is one of four inclusions in Australia’s 15-member squad, alongside uncapped batter Matthew Renshaw, Matt Short, and Mitch Owen. Short returns after recovering from a side strain, while Owen is back after suffering a concussion during the T20I series against South Africa.
Cummins still recovering; Maxwell unavailable
Marsh will continue to lead as Cummins completes rehabilitation from lumbar bone stress. Glenn Maxwell remains unavailable due to a wrist fracture sustained during the New Zealand tour.
Wicketkeeper Alex Carey will miss the opening ODI in Perth to play the Sheffield Shield match for South Australia, with Josh Inglis filling in.
Series schedule
The ODIs will be played on October 19 (Perth), October 23 (Adelaide), and October 25 (Sydney). The five-match T20I series will follow from October 29 to November 8 across Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Gold Coast, and Brisbane.
