Prithvi Shaw Makes Stunning Statement With Mammoth 181, Puts Selectors On Notice

In a commanding display of class and intent, Prithvi Shaw announced his return to form with a breathtaking 181-run knock against Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy warm-up match. The innings, played for his new team Maharashtra, served as a timely reminder of his talent and hunger to reclaim a spot in the Indian side.

Shaw’s Fiery Return To Form

Facing his former team for the first time since moving to Maharashtra, Shaw came out all guns blazing. Opening the innings, the right-hander punished the Mumbai bowlers with trademark strokeplay — crisp drives, audacious cuts, and flawless timing. His century came off 144 balls, and he went on to hammer 181 before being dismissed by spinner Shams Mulani.

New Chapter With Maharashtra

Having switched from Mumbai to Maharashtra this season, Shaw’s performance marked a perfect start to a new domestic chapter. Alongside young opener Arshin Kulkarni, he added over 300 runs for the opening wicket, giving his side a dominant start in the match. His body language and composure suggested a player determined to make a statement.

A Message To The Selectors

Shaw, who last played for India in 2021, has had a turbulent few seasons marked by injuries and inconsistency. However, his latest knock sends a clear message to national selectors that he remains a force to reckon with. With India’s Test and limited-overs squads constantly evolving, Shaw’s timing couldn’t have been better.

Technique And Temperament

What stood out in Shaw’s innings was not just the aggression but also the control. He showed patience early on, respected good deliveries, and waited for scoring opportunities. His shot selection reflected maturity and an improved understanding of game situations — traits that could strengthen his case for an international recall.

Road Ahead

Maharashtra will begin their Ranji Trophy 2025–26 campaign against Kerala on October 15. If Shaw continues in this vein, the domestic season could mark the start of his resurgence and possibly a return to the national colors.

For now, Prithvi Shaw’s 181 has reignited conversations about one of Indian cricket’s most talented young batters — and served as a stark reminder that his story is far from over.
