England made history against South Africa in the 2nd T20I of the three-match series at Old Trafford, Manchester. The Three Lions posted a score of 304/2 in 20 overs. This is their maiden score of 300-plus in. T20is. Meanwhile, this was also the 3rd time a team scored 300-plus runs in T20Is after Zimbabwe and Nepal. England now own the 3rd-highest score in T20Is. Openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler laid the foundation with a 126-run stand. Thereafter, it was a Salt demolition show with Jacob Bethell and Harry Brook playing alongside him and adding pivotal partnerships.
Salt ended up hammering his 4th T20I ton. He managed 141* from just 60 balls. Salt also hammered the fastest T20I hundred for England (by balls). He took 39 balls to complete his hundred.
A score of 304/2 in Manchester
Being asked to bat by SA skipper Aiden Markram, Salt and Buttler attacked from the word go. They stitched a massive 126-run stand in no time. 100 of their partnership runs came in the powerplay which became England’s best-ever score in the PP overs.
Buttler hit an 18-ball fifty before being out for 83 runs from 30 balls in the 8th over. Salt also brought up a 19-ball fifty and continued to demolish the visitors, adding a solid stand with Jacob Bethell. The two helped England get past the 200-run mark with Salt completing a 39-ball century.
After Bethell (26) got out, skipper Harry Brook joined Salt and the two helped the Three Lions roar themselves past the 300-run mark. The duo added an unbeaten 83-run stand. Brook hit 41* from 21 balls.
England hit 18 sixes in their innings alongside 30 fours.
With the ball, England then bowled the Proteas out for 158 in 16.1 overs to win by a margin of 146 runs.
