Presenting the lowest team totals by South Africa in ODIs

South Africa posted their 2nd-lowest all-out team total in the 3rd and final ODI versus England.

The 3rd and final ODI of the 2025 series between England and South Africa on August 7 saw records get tumbled. The match at The Rose Bowl in Southampton, saw England post a mammoth 414/5 in 50 overs. This was their 5th-highest score in ODIs and their highest total versus South Africa. Thereafter, England bowled South Africa out for a paltry score of 72. It ended up being South Africa’s 2nd-lowest ODI team total in addition to their lowest score against England.

England thump SA at the Rose Bowl, Southampton 

England saw opener Jamie Smith score a valuable 62 upfront. Joe Root (100) and Jacob Bethell (110) were brilliant thereafter, smashing pivotal hundreds. Root struck his smashed his 19th ODI hundred whereas Bethell got his maiden ton. Their solid work was continued by Jos Buttler, who hit a ferocious unbeaten 62 off 32 balls.

Nandre Burger proved to be expensive, conceding 95 runs from his 10 overs. Burger bowled South Africa’s joint second-most expensive ODI spell, equalling Wayne Parnell (2/95). The unwanted list is headed by Dale Steyn, who took 2/96 against Australia in Durban in 2016.

What is South Africa’s lowest team total in ODIs?

As per ESPNcricinfo, South Africa recorded their 2nd-lowest team total in ODIs. Notably, their lowest team total by South Africa remains 69/10 versus Australia in 1993. After restricting Australia to 172/9 in 50 overs at the SCG, the Proteas folded for 69 to lose by 103 runs. SA were bowled out in 28 overs.
