But the celebrations dimmed quickly: U.S. tax rules will slice a significant chunk from the windfall. Facing the top federal rate of 37% and New York state tax of 9.65%, Alcaraz is left with roughly $2.5–2.9 million, before accounting for travel, coaching, and other expenses .
