Amanda Anisimova Stuns Iga Swiatek to Avenge Wimbledon Humiliation, Reaches US Open Semifinals

New York : Amanda Anisimova delivered a stunning performance on the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium to defeat world No. 2 Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the 2025 US Open, avenging the crushing 6-0, 6-0 loss she suffered against Swiatek in the Wimbledon final just 53 days earlier. In a match lasting just 96 minutes, Anisimova showed remarkable resilience as she claimed her first US Open semifinal berth, captivating fans with a fearless and aggressive style that disrupted Swiatek’s rhythm and demonstrated her mental strength. The American eighth seed won an impressive 67 of 121 points, turning the tables in an emotional, high-stakes rematch .

Anisimova candidly shared that she rewatched the painful Wimbledon loss the night before the match to prepare mentally. “It was the most significant victory of my life,” she said after the win. “I stepped onto the court without a hint of fear… I was always moving and pushing myself.” This revelation underscored her mental transformation since Wimbledon, where she once felt slow and overwhelmed. Now, she played with confidence and purpose, hitting 23 winners and capitalizing brilliantly on Swiatek’s second serve, winning 12 of 17 points. Her ability to control the momentum while avoiding self-doubt was critical as she overcame an early break in the opening game to eventually clinch the first set with a decisive break at 5-4 .

The second set was equally intense. Swiatek tried to mount a comeback, immediately breaking Anisimova’s serve, but the American remained composed and fought back hard, breaking twice to secure the match. The atmosphere grew electric as Anisimova served out the victory with composure, unleashing solid shots and fighting through tough rallies. Swiatek acknowledged Anisimova’s intensity on the returns as a key factor in the outcome, admitting her own serve was not at its best during critical moments. This encounter transformed from Wimbledon’s one-sided final into a riveting battle that showcased Anisimova’s growth and determination .

With this memorable victory, Anisimova is set to face Naomi Osaka in the US Open semifinals, where she will look to continue her incredible run. This inspiring turnaround from a devastating defeat to a hard-earned triumph exemplifies the power of resilience in sport. Amanda Anisimova’s story this season is a powerful reminder that setbacks can fuel great comebacks, and she now stands as a serious contender for her first Grand Slam title on the biggest stage in tennis .
