Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 To Kick Off With Sporting Legends On National Sports Day

Legends Unite To Launch PKL Season 12 On August 29

The highly anticipated Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) will get underway on National Sports Day (August 29) with an inspiring opening ceremony featuring India’s celebrated sporting figures. The lineup includes Padma Bhushan badminton icon Pullela Gopichand, field hockey great Dhanraj Pillay, kabaddi legend Pardeep Narwal, and rising cricket talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who will lead the crowd in the National Anthem to officially usher in the new season.

A Celebration Of Sporting Heritage And Kabaddi’s Rise

This season’s launch is more than ceremonial—it’s a tribute to India’s rich sporting legacy and a testament to kabaddi’s growing cultural prominence. As PKL charts its course beyond traditional boundaries, the presence of icons from a spectrum of Indian sports emphasizes the league’s deep roots and aspirational reach.

New Format Injects Fresh Excitement Into PKL

PKL Season 12 comes with revamped competitive rules to keep the action pulsating throughout:

No more draws—all league-stage matches will have definitive outcomes, with tiebreakers used to determine winners.

A fresh “play-in” phase ensures more teams have clarity and opportunity: the top two teams advance directly to the playoffs, teams in 3rd and 4th place battle in a mini-qualifier, while teams at 5th through 8th positions compete in Play-ins for the remaining spots.

Season Opener: A Southern Derby Live on TV

The stage is set for a fiery opening match as Telugu Titans take on Tamil Thalaivas in a high-voltage derby on August 29, streaming live on JioHotstar and Star Sports Network. This bright beginning promises a season filled with thrilling raids, tackles, and intense competition.
