Kingston, Jamaica– Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has etched his name further into T20 history, becoming only the sixth bowler to claim 500 wickets in the shortest format of the game. This landmark achievement underscores his enduring quality and consistent impact across T20 leagues and international cricket worldwide.

Shakib reached the milestone during a recent T20 encounter, adding his name to an exclusive club of bowling legends who have consistently bamboozled batsmen in the fast-paced world of T20 cricket. His journey to 500 wickets has been a testament to his guile, control, and variations, making him a coveted asset for any T20 team.

Joining the Pantheon of T20 Bowling Greats

Shakib Al Hasan now stands alongside some of the most celebrated bowlers in T20 history. Let’s take a look at the other members of this prestigious 500-wicket club and their remarkable records:

  1. Dwayne Bravo (West Indies): The undisputed leader in T20 wickets, Dwayne Bravo has carved out a legendary career built on his slower balls, deceptive variations, and death-bowling expertise. He boasts an impressive tally of over 600 T20 wickets, showcasing his longevity and consistent wicket-taking ability across numerous leagues.
  2. Sunil Narine (West Indies): Known for his mystery spin and incredible accuracy, Sunil Narine has been a force to reckon with in T20 cricket for over a decade. His economical spells and consistent breakthroughs have made him a highly sought-after bowler globally. Narine also boasts a remarkable bowling average, often under 20, highlighting his effectiveness.
  3. Imran Tahir (South Africa): The energetic leg-spinner from South Africa has brought his infectious enthusiasm and potent wicket-taking ability to T20 leagues around the world.6 Known for his aggressive approach and celebratory sprints, Tahir has consistently troubled batsmen with his variations and sharp turn. His bowling average often sits in the low 20s, reflecting his consistent strike rate.
  4. Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka): With his slinga’s unique slinging action and deadly yorkers, Lasith Malinga has been a nightmare for batsmen, especially at the death. His ability to bowl consistent yorkers under pressure has made him one of the most feared T20 bowlers of all time. Malinga’s career strike rate and average underscore his impact as a genuine wicket-taker.
  5. Andre Russell (West Indies): While renowned for his explosive batting, Andre Russell’s contribution with the ball cannot be understated. His aggressive fast-medium bowling, coupled with clever variations, has earned him a place in this elite club.7 Russell’s ability to pick up crucial wickets, often when the opposition is looking dangerous, makes him a valuable two-way player.

Shakib’s Enduring Legacy

Shakib Al Hasan’s inclusion in this esteemed group further solidifies his status as one of the greatest all-rounders in T20 cricket. His consistent performances with both bat and ball have made him an invaluable asset for Bangladesh and various franchise teams globally. Reaching the 500 T20 wicket milestone is a testament to his skill, adaptability, and longevity in a format that constantly evolves. As he continues his career, fans will eagerly anticipate further milestones from this iconic cricketer.
